TED is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world. It believes passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. It started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. TED today shares ideas from a broad spectrum — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. At a TED conference, the world’s leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes or less. TED speakers have included Roger Ebert, Sheryl Sandberg, Bill Gates, Elizabeth Gilbert, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Brian Greene, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading.
The TEDx Program is designed to help communities, organizations and individuals to spark conversation and connection through local TED-like experiences. At TEDx events, a screening of TED Talks videos — or a combination of live presenters and TED Talks videos — sparks deep conversation and connections at the local level. TEDx events are planned and coordinated independently, under a free license granted by TED. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. TEDx events unleash fresh ideas from local communities. Close to 50,000 talks have been given at 10,000 events since the program launched in 2009.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDxTUA is a local, self-organized event based in Tehran University of Arts which brings people together to share a TED-like experience. Our 2016 and very first TEDXTUA is about "Beyond Normality" which brings together extraordinary stories of people who has broken through their routine life. At TEDxTUA, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. Further more TEDxTUA is a great place for sharing ideas and social networking. Our two-step registration is opening on January 5, 2016 and the event is scheduled for February 19, 2016 at Tehran University of Arts, Vali-Asr branch.
As we settle into the 21st century, we are faced with a new reality. The fast pace of technology and innovation has given the human race a new platform to express itself. From scientific discoveries to artistic expressions, we are founding ourselves relieved from the borders of the old world and lost in the immense world of new. But new horizons demand new responsibilities and new responsibilities demand new structures. The modern human has pushed through the barriers and beyond normality to arrive here. But now more is needed. We have to adapt to survive and we have to control our mind, body and our universe in order to flourish. It will take time. It will take dedication. But most importantly, it will take collaboration. From these, the future will rise and it will be THE NEW NORMAL.
